Sitges Fantastic Film Festival 2026 Poster

Unofficial Sitges Fantastic Film Festival 2026 poster by Cha, inspired by 1960s mid century illustration and UPA animation

A playful tribute to one of Sitges’ most iconic cultural events, this unofficial poster by Cha celebrates the 59th edition of the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival, held from October 8 to 18, 2026.

Rather than borrowing from classic horror imagery, Cha takes the festival somewhere unexpected: straight back to the graphic world of the 1960s.

Inspired by mid century modern illustration and the bold visual language associated with UPA animation, the composition uses loose hand drawn lines, irregular typography, simplified shapes and a deliberately restrained black and warm cream palette.

At the centre of the scene, an unlikely festival visitor wanders along the Sitges waterfront, camera around his neck, beach towel in hand and sunglasses pointed towards the sky. Above him, familiar fragments of Sitges drift into a surreal cinematic universe: the church, a palm tree, mysterious flying saucers and other playful references to Sitges & the fantastic.

The result sits somewhere between a vintage film poster, an old animation title card and a souvenir from an imaginary 1960s Sitges.

Humorous, graphic and deliberately imperfect, the artwork celebrates both fantastic cinema and the unmistakable personality of Sitges, where for a few days every October the strange feels completely at home.

This is an independent artistic tribute and is not an official poster of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, nor affiliated with or endorsed by the festival organisation.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The design draws on the visual vocabulary of 1950s and 1960s modernist illustration, particularly the economical drawing, exaggerated forms and playful abstraction associated with the UPA school of animation.

Instead of creating depth through realistic rendering, Cha builds the composition through line, typography and negative space. The slightly chaotic arrangement of letters and floating objects reinforces the sense that something strange has invaded an otherwise ordinary day in Sitges.

The ticket shaped border completes the concept, transforming the poster itself into an imaginary admission ticket to the 59th edition.

FUN FACT

Sitges has hosted its fantastic cinema festival since 1968, making it one of the longest running events devoted to fantasy and horror cinema.

The festival grew from the 1ª Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico y de Terror and has since become internationally associated with fantastic genre cinema, while Sitges itself becomes part of the experience each October.

For its 2026 edition, the festival runs from October 8 to 18, marking its 59th edition.

Everything You Need to Know

New to MyRetroPoster? Here are the answers to the questions our customers ask most often before ordering their first print.
