How to Choose Art That Makes a Home Feel Like Yours

A beautiful room isn’t necessarily a personal one.

You can have a comfortable sofa, carefully chosen furniture, beautiful lighting and colours that work perfectly together — and still feel that something is missing.

Sometimes, that missing element is art.

Not because every wall needs decorating, but because art brings something into a home that furniture…

Discovering Postcrossing: When a Postcard Travels the World

Why We Bring Places Home

There is a curious ritual that happens towards the end of almost every journey.

We start looking for something to bring home.

Sometimes it is deliberate. We buy a postcard, a print, a ceramic bowl or something made locally. Sometimes it is almost accidental: a ticket we cannot quite bring ourselves to throw away, a shell found on a beach, a restaurant card…

Framed St Barth St Jean vintage travel poster by Alecse displayed inside a luxury hotel in Gustavia, St Barth, shown in a refined black and white tonal version.

The Poster You Didn’t See

"I saw a poster on your website yesterday..."

The visitor looks around the gallery.

They walk slowly along the walls, stopping here and there, smiling at a destination they know, discovering another they had never heard of.

Then comes the question.

"I can't find it. Do you still have it?"

It makes us smile every time.

Because that simple question reveals a common assumption: that everything a gallery sells should be hanging on its walls.

In reality, galleries have never worked that way.

A Gallery Is Not a Catalogue

A museum may own tens of thousands of works while exhibiting only a few hundred.

A library may contain thousands of books that never appear on the front table.
