Montjuïc Barcelona Poster

Retro Montjuïc Barcelona poster by Cha, inspired by vintage 1960s travel illustration and the panoramic views over the city

See Barcelona from another point of view.

Read more Read less

This playful travel poster by Cha celebrates Montjuïc, the hill overlooking Barcelona and one of the best places from which to take in the city, the Mediterranean and some of its most recognisable landmarks.

Drawn in a loose, spontaneous style inspired by mid century travel graphics and 1960s illustration, the composition turns the Montjuïc panorama into an imaginary visual postcard. Cable cars cross the sky above palm trees and the hillside, while the unmistakable silhouettes of the Sagrada Família rise in the distance.

A cheerful traveller points towards the city as if discovering Barcelona for the first time, surrounded by flowers, sunshine, mountains and the little visual details that make the journey up Montjuïc part of the experience.

Rendered almost entirely in warm terracotta against a softly textured cream background, the deliberately imperfect lines give the artwork the charm of an old hand printed travel advertisement or a page discovered in a vintage Mediterranean sketchbook.

At the bottom, the message “The most scenic view awaits you - From Montjuïc” transforms the illustration into an invitation: leave the streets behind, head uphill and rediscover Barcelona from above.

Part of Cha’s Spanish Capsule™, this poster combines Mediterranean nostalgia, humour and modern graphic simplicity in a contemporary tribute to Barcelona.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Cha approaches Montjuïc not as a literal map, but as a collection of memories and impressions.

The composition brings together some of the visual experiences associated with the hill and its surroundings: the cable cars suspended over the city, Mediterranean vegetation, panoramic viewpoints and Barcelona’s skyline in the distance.

The hand drawn lettering and intentionally irregular linework are inspired by the freedom of 1950s and 1960s commercial illustration, when travel advertising often relied on expressive drawings rather than photographic realism.

The restricted terracotta and cream palette reinforces that vintage character while giving the poster a warm Mediterranean identity.

FUN FACT

Montjuïc rises between central Barcelona and the Mediterranean and has long been one of the city’s major recreational and cultural areas.

Its name is traditionally interpreted as “Jewish Mountain”, from the medieval Catalan Montjuïc, a reference associated with the historic Jewish cemetery once located on the hillside.

Today the mountain brings together gardens, museums, sporting venues, historic sites and panoramic viewpoints, while its cable transport systems have become some of the most recognisable ways of experiencing Barcelona from above.

Important: the two cable systems associated with Montjuïc are different. The Telefèric de Montjuïc climbs the mountain towards the castle, while the historic Transbordador Aeri del Port crosses above the port between the Barceloneta area and Montjuïc. That distinction is worth preserving if you mention either specifically elsewhere on the product page.
