Inside Alecse's Vintage Travel Posters Collection
Artful Travels™ by Alecse is the result of a unique artistic approach rooted in real places, lived moments, and a deep respect for memory. Each poster begins with a photograph of an actual location — never an invented or imagined scene — because capturing the truth of a place is at the heart of Alecse’s work. In his eyes, a travel poster is not a fantasy, but the distilled essence of a destination.
Rather than reproducing reality in high-definition, Alecse works with the idea that our minds remember places through a handful of defining traits. We don’t store landscapes like cameras; we retain their rhythm, their light, a silhouette, a color, a feeling. His posters preserve those essential cues and leave space for the viewer to complete the image with their own memories — a reason why locals often say they feel their home hasn’t been betrayed.
The creation process blends three sources: the original photograph, a simplified line drawing, and a hand-painted digital rendition. This method allows Alecse to remove visual distractions, enhance meaningful details, and sometimes add playful easter eggs — a familiar face, a subtle reference — hidden within the scene. Once combined through layered transparency, the composition is refined through lighting, selective blur, and careful color adjustments to guide the eye and recreate the soft, dreamlike texture of memory.
Each artwork is then finished with Alecse’s signature halftone effect, inspired by early 20th-century printing techniques. This pattern of colored dots gives the posters their warm vintage grain — not pixelation, but a handcrafted, nostalgic finish that bridges photography, illustration, and painting.
From Sri Lanka to Mexico, from Paris to Cape Town, Alecse has created posters for more than 130 countries so far, with the long-term ambition of capturing the entire world. To learn more about his artistic universe and creative journey, visit the About Alecse page.

About Alecse's Creative Process
Every travel poster by Alecse begins with a real photograph of an actual place. The creative process unfolds in three layers: a simplified line drawing, a hand-painted digital rendition, and the original photo itself. These three sources are then blended together through transparency to form a single unified composition.
During this fusion, Alecse removes visual distractions such as cables, signs, parked cars, or crowds, and enhances the elements that best express the identity of the location. When the scene calls for it, he may also add subtle easter eggs — a familiar silhouette, a humorous detail, or a personal reference — discreetly woven into the artwork.
Once the three layers are merged, the image is refined through selective blur, lighting adjustments, and reinforced lines to guide the viewer’s eye and recreate the way memory works: softer around the edges, sharper at its emotional center.
The final step is Alecse’s signature halftone finish, inspired by early 20th-century printing techniques. This texture of colored dots gives each poster its warm, vintage grain — not pixelation, but a nostalgic, handcrafted feel that bridges photography, illustration, and painting.
