Sagrada Sanctus Poster

Sagrada Sanctus Poster is a limited edition art print by Cha inspired by one of the most symbolic moments in the history of the Sagrada Família: the completion of the monumental cross crowning the Tower of Jesus in 2026. Elegant, minimalist and deeply rooted in the spiritual language of Gaudí’s masterpiece, this artwork celebrates a new chapter in the story of Barcelona’s most iconic landmark.

ABOUT THE LANDMARK

The Basílica de la Sagrada Família is one of the world's most recognisable architectural achievements. Construction began in 1882 and became inseparable from the vision of Antoni Gaudí, who devoted the final years of his life entirely to the project.

More than a century after Gaudí's death, the basilica continues its remarkable journey toward completion. The installation of the monumental cross atop the Tower of Jesus represents one of the most important milestones ever reached by the project, finally giving shape to a defining element of Gaudí’s architectural and spiritual vision.

The word Sanctus, visible on the pinnacle beneath the cross, comes from the Latin hymn meaning "Holy". It forms part of the rich symbolic language woven throughout the basilica and inspired the title of this artwork.

THE ARTWORK

Sagrada Sanctus focuses on the newly installed cross and the sculptural pinnacle supporting it. Reduced to clean graphic lines and simplified forms, the composition highlights the extraordinary geometry of the structure against a serene Mediterranean sky.

Beneath the cross rises one of the basilica's distinctive pinnacles, crowned by the word "Sanctus". Nearby appear a celestial star and a dove, symbols of light, peace and spiritual elevation that resonate throughout Gaudí's architectural vocabulary.

Rendered in Cha's distinctive minimalist style, the poster transforms a complex architectural subject into a timeless decorative artwork that speaks equally to lovers of design, architecture and Barcelona.

THE SYMBOLISM BEHIND SAGRADA SANCTUS

Alongside the cross, Cha incorporates two recurring symbols often associated with Gaudí's spiritual universe: a celestial star and a dove. Together, they evoke divine light, peace and transcendence, reinforcing the sacred dimension of the basilica while preserving the graphic simplicity and elegance of the City Lines series.

FUN FACTS

  • The Tower of Jesus reaches approximately 172.5 metres, making it the tallest church tower in the world upon completion.

  • Gaudí intentionally designed the basilica to remain slightly lower than Montjuïc hill, believing that no human creation should surpass the work of God.

  • "Sanctus" is the Latin word for "Holy" and forms part of one of Christianity's most important liturgical hymns.
  • The monumental cross is designed to be illuminated and visible from many parts of Barcelona.
  • The completion of the Tower of Jesus marks one of the most significant milestones since Antoni Gaudí's death in 1926.
