When a Collector Leads the Way: St Barth, Fouquet's and a Tonal Edition

Framed St Barth St Jean vintage travel poster by Alecse displayed inside a luxury hotel in Gustavia, St Barth, shown in a refined black and white tonal version.

A Discovery, Thanks to a Collector

Sometimes, it is our collectors who reveal where our posters travel.

Framed Poster ST BARTH ST JEAN POSTER | Limited Edition | Original Design by Alecse™ | Vintage Travel Poster Series

Recently, a client contacted us after recognising the limited-edition St Barth – St Jean poster by Alecse displayed at Fouquet’s St Barth in Gustavia. She had first encountered it framed within the hotel and kindly shared a photograph with us.

This artwork had already received a beautiful distinction: it was selected for inclusion in the Assouline St Barth volume, an art book celebrating the island’s aesthetic identity and cultural presence.

Discovering that it also lives within a five-star property of the Barrière Group adds another layer to its journey.

A Tonal Presence

The version displayed at Fouquet’s appears in black and white.

Some interiors call for a quieter palette, a more architectural reading of an image. When colour steps back, structure and contrast take centre stage.

For this reason, we developed the Tonal Reinterpretation option.

Rather than applying a preset, each artwork is carefully rebalanced by Alecse to preserve depth, contrast and the halftone texture that defines his signature style. The objective is to create a refined monochrome interpretation that remains fully faithful to the original composition.

The Importance of the Original Edition

As the artist and author of the original poster, Alecse remains deeply attentive to how each artwork is reproduced and displayed.

A tonal version, when executed by the artist himself, ensures:

  • Perfect tonal balance
  • Preserved halftone rendering
  • Museum-quality printing
  • Integration within the official limited edition of 300

Each tonal reinterpretation is deducted from the original edition, maintaining its rarity and authenticity.

From Island Light to Refined Interiors

St Jean Bay has its own light. Its own rhythm. Its own presence.

Whether in colour or in monochrome, the intention remains the same: to evoke the island faithfully, with depth and permanence.

Collectors, designers and hospitality spaces seeking a more restrained palette can explore the Tonal Reinterpretation option here.
