Vintage Exotics™ Blooms Into The Herbarium by Cha

Japanese inspired botanical prints from The Herbarium series by Cha, displayed in a warm contemporary interior with earthy colours and decorative floral compositions.

Flowers have always occupied a special place in decorative arts.

From Japanese woodblock prints to vintage textile patterns and mid-century interiors, floral compositions have long been used not simply to represent nature, but to shape atmosphere, colour and emotion within a space.

With this new series created for Vintage Exotics™, Cha explores that decorative tradition through a distinctly contemporary lens, while remaining deeply rooted in the oriental and japonisante influences that define the collection.

Where Vintage Exotics™ Meets Botanical Forms

Although Vintage Exotics™ is often associated with Asian-inspired popular culture and graphic storytelling, its visual language has always drawn from a wider universe of Japanese aesthetics, vintage packaging, textile motifs and decorative composition.

This new floral series naturally extends that world.

Rather than aiming for botanical realism, these posters focus on shapes, silhouettes, negative space and colour harmonies. The flowers become graphic elements, almost architectural in the way they occupy the composition.

Some pieces evoke the softness of traditional Japanese prints, while others feel closer to vintage screen printing or modernist textile design.

The result is a collection that feels both calm and vibrant at the same time.

One of the defining elements of this series is its use of colour.

Warm terracotta tones, muted greens, faded coral reds, creamy whites and soft turquoise blues create subtle yet highly expressive harmonies designed to transform the mood of a room.

These are not posters that simply decorate a wall.

They structure a space.

Depending on the format and framing, they can introduce warmth to a minimalist interior, soften contemporary spaces or create bold visual anchors in larger rooms.

Displayed in large sizes, their graphic simplicity gives them a surprisingly strong presence.

Designed for Interiors

Unlike more narrative travel posters, this series was conceived primarily with interiors in mind.

The compositions are intentionally balanced to work both individually and as curated sets, allowing collectors to build colour dialogues between several pieces.

Seen together in the Barcelona gallery, the posters almost behave like a decorative installation, with each flower responding visually to the next through colour, rhythm and contrast.

This highly decorative approach also reconnects with one of the original ambitions behind Vintage Exotics™: creating artworks that blur the line between illustration, object and interior design.

A Japanese Influence, Reinterpreted

The Japanese influence present throughout the series is less about direct quotation and more about sensibility.

There is a similar attention to balance, asymmetry, flat colour fields and the expressive power of simplified forms.

Some viewers may recognize echoes of traditional Japanese prints, while others may think of vintage matchbox graphics, textile patterns or the restrained elegance of mid-century Asian design.

Rather than reproducing a specific style, Cha reinterprets these visual traditions through her own graphic language.

Now Presented in Barcelona

The new floral series is currently presented in the MyRetroPoster Barcelona gallery, where several of the designs are displayed.

Seen in person, the scale, textures and colour relationships become even more striking, especially when the posters interact with natural light and surrounding interiors.

Like all Vintage Exotics™ artworks, these posters are published as limited editions of 300 prints across all sizes.

They are available online and in our galleries.
