Florence Poster Firenze 1 - Artful Travel™ Collection by Alecse

Florence reveals some of its greatest treasures when admired from above. Beyond its famous cathedral and Renaissance palaces lies a fascinating landscape of terracotta rooftops, ancient bridges and colorful buildings stretching along the banks of the Arno River. Firenze 1, an original vintage travel poster by French artist Alecse, captures this extraordinary urban scenery through a vibrant composition inspired by classic Italian travel art.

Created in September 2018, shortly after Alecse's first Sri Lanka travel posters, Firenze 1 belongs to the earliest artworks in the history of MyRetroPoster. It forms the left panel of the Firenze Triptych, a series of three complementary posters that together create a panoramic view of Florence, one of Italy's most celebrated cities.

FLORENCE, WHERE HISTORY MEETS THE ARNO

Few cities capture the spirit of the Italian Renaissance quite like Florence. The capital of Tuscany has been a center of art, architecture and culture for centuries, with an extraordinary historic center shaped by generations of artists, architects and influential families.

Flowing through the heart of the city, the Arno River has played an essential role in Florence's development. Its bridges connect the historic neighborhoods on either side, offering some of the city's most memorable architectural views.

Among them, the legendary Ponte Vecchio stands as one of Florence's most recognizable landmarks. Lined with small shops that appear to cling to its sides, this medieval bridge has become an enduring symbol of the city.

Fun Fact: The Ponte Vecchio is famous for its jewelry shops, but it was once home to butchers and other food merchants. In 1593, Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici ordered the butchers to leave, paving the way for the goldsmiths and jewelers who still characterize the bridge today.

FIRENZE 1: A COLORFUL VIEW OVER THE PONTE VECCHIO

In Firenze 1, Alecse captures a sweeping panorama of Florence's historic rooftops, with the distinctive arches and buildings of the Ponte Vecchio providing a remarkable architectural focal point.

From the foreground's densely packed buildings to the distant skyline, the composition reveals the extraordinary complexity of Florence's urban landscape. Traditional terracotta roofs, ochre façades and narrow streets create a fascinating patchwork of colors and shapes.

The artwork combines warm shades of coral, terracotta and golden yellow with unexpected touches of turquoise and deep blue. These contrasting colors bring a contemporary graphic energy to the city's centuries-old architecture.

Above the rooftops, a softly textured turquoise sky gives the scene an atmospheric quality, while the strong outlines and simplified architectural forms create the distinctive visual character of Alecse's vintage-inspired travel posters.

THE FIRENZE TRIPTYCH: THREE VIEWS, ONE CITY

Firenze 1 is the opening artwork in Alecse's original Firenze Triptych, created in September 2018 as one of the first series in the Artful Travels™ collection.

Designed as three complementary compositions, the series captures a continuous panoramic view of Florence, celebrating its historic bridges, terracotta rooftops, Renaissance architecture and unmistakable Tuscan atmosphere.

Displayed from left to right, Firenze 1, Firenze 2 and Firenze 3 come together to create a striking panorama of the city.

Firenze 1 introduces the composition with its view over the Ponte Vecchio and surrounding rooftops. Firenze 2 continues the panorama with the magnificent dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, while Firenze 3 completes the scene with another richly detailed perspective over Florence's historic neighborhoods.

Each artwork can be displayed independently, but together the three posters create an original panoramic wall art arrangement that celebrates the beauty of Florence.

ONE OF ALECSE'S EARLIEST TRAVEL POSTERS

The Firenze Triptych holds a special place in the history of MyRetroPoster.

Created in September 2018, shortly after Alecse began developing his first vintage-inspired travel posters in Sri Lanka, these three artworks belong to the earliest chapter of his artistic journey.

They reflect the emergence of the distinctive visual language that would become the signature of his Artful Travels™ collection: a combination of photography, digital painting, illustration and vintage-inspired graphic design.

Through its rich colors, strong architectural lines and distinctive halftone texture, Firenze 1 illustrates Alecse's approach to transforming familiar destinations into original artworks that combine the nostalgic charm of classic travel posters with contemporary artistic techniques.

VINTAGE ITALIAN TRAVEL ART

Firenze 1 celebrates the beauty of Florence through a vibrant palette of terracotta, coral, golden ochre, turquoise and deep burgundy.

The intricate architectural composition creates an almost abstract rhythm of rooftops, windows, arches and historic buildings, inviting the viewer to discover new details with every glance.

Alecse's distinctive vintage-inspired halftone finish adds texture and depth to the artwork, recalling the visual character of classic travel posters while preserving the individuality of his contemporary artistic approach.

Whether displayed on its own or alongside Firenze 2 and Firenze 3, this original Florence poster brings the warmth of Tuscany, the beauty of Italian architecture and the nostalgic spirit of vintage travel art into your home.

Alecse’s Vintage Style: blurs & grains

This vintage travel poster of Florence Poster Firenze 1 reflects Alecse’s distinctive artistic approach. Through his signature half-tone render, the artwork evokes the atmosphere of Italy with a timeless retro aesthetic.

Alecse's Original Travel Posters are celebrated for their unique half-tone render, a signature style that plays a crucial role in their appeal and authenticity. This distinctive digital effect is intentionally used to mimic the old poster printing process, where colors were rendered by the juxtaposition of dots of different sizes and colors. This method is a nod to vintage aesthetics, giving each poster a classic, retro look that aficionados of vintage travel and retro posters appreciate.

Half-Tone vs. Pixelization:

  • Half-Tone is an artistic technique used to create shading and texture effects in images. It involves the arrangement of dots of varying sizes and spacing to simulate different shades of color. This technique was traditionally used in the printing industry to reproduce photographs and illustrations with a limited color palette, contributing to a poster's vintage appearance.
  • Pixelization, on the other hand, refers to an effect seen in digital images when they are enlarged beyond their resolution. This results in the individual pixels becoming visible, making the image appear blocky or mosaic-like. Pixelization is often considered a flaw or limitation of digital images, unlike the half-tone effect, which is a deliberate artistic choice.

like all his posters, Florence Poster Firenze 1 by Alecse™ is printed in Fine Art 12 Giclées, ensuring high-quality reproductions that honor the original artistic intent. While these art prints are not meant to be crisp like photographs and intentionally include blurs and vintage effects, it's essential to distinguish these artistic choices from potential printing defects. A clear indication of a print's quality is the crispness of the signature and titles; if these elements are not sharp, it may indicate a printing issue.

For those interested in the intricate details of Alecse's work or wanting to appreciate the half-tone effect fully, we offer the option to receive a close-up picture in High Definition before placing an order. This allows customers to make informed decisions and ensures satisfaction with their purchase of vintage travel and retro posters, enhancing their collection with pieces that truly represent the artist's vision and the era's printing techniques.

Please contact us if you wish to receive a close-up picture of Florence Poster Firenze 1 in High Definition before placing your order.
