By Pamela – Studio Coordinator at MyRetroposter You may already know me. I’m the one who answers your questions and solves hiccups by email or WhatsApp. My name is Pamela – Pam for everyone – and I’ve been working alongside Alecse and Cha for quite a few years now. Every day, I get to witness everything that happens behind the scenes: in the studio, at the gallery, and behind the screen. And recently, while updating the website, I took the time to reread all the reviews we’ve received over the years. And something hit me. Not because I was discovering... … Read more
Behind every poster at Myretroposter, there’s a person — and often, that person is Cha. Mother of two, feminist, illustrator, lifelong doodler, and co-founder of the brand. Her art is not just vintage-inspired designs—it’s a reflection of her heart, her journey, and her humanity. Drawing Comes First Cha has been drawing since she was a child. Always. Her notebooks were full of sketches long before she studied art history at Christie’s or the art market at Sotheby’s IESA. That playful hand—doodling, inventing, sketching in margins—remains her creative core. A Decade in Sri Lanka, and a Taste for Asia From Bordeaux... … Read more
There’s something instantly recognizable in Alecse’s vintage travel posters. Whether it’s a dreamy coastal view, a vibrant city scene or a pastel-colored street in a faraway place, each composition carries his unmistakable style. But look closer, especially on larger formats, and you’ll notice a subtle yet powerful detail: the halftone. This delicate pattern of tiny dots softens the image, evokes the charm of classic offset printing, and has become a true signature of Alecse’s work. More than a stylistic choice, it also plays a hidden role: it helps protect his art from imitation. A Legacy of Print, Reimagined Digitally... … Read more

The Internet Eating Its Own Images: AI Feeding AI & Creative Flattening
A web that no longer looks at itself For decades, the internet was a place where images arrived. Photos from travels. Illustrations from artists. Posters, drawings, accidents, mistakes, styles.Today, something has shifted. Images no longer arrive. They are produced. At scale. At speed. Often without ever being looked at. And increasingly, they are produced from other produced images. The internet is no longer observing reality. It is observing itself. When AI becomes the main visual source AI models learn from existing images. That is their foundation. But the balance is changing. Generated images now circulate faster, wider, and more cheaply than human-made visuals. They fill search results, marketplaces, social feeds, inspiration boards, and stock platforms. Which means something unprecedented is happening: AI is being trained on content that AI already created. Not exclusively. But increasingly. This feedback loop doesn’t create errors. It creates averages. Creative flattening is not a crash This is important: We are not talking about a collapse of... … Read more
Vintage travel posters never truly disappeared. But since the early 2000s, they have returned with surprising strength, not as simple nostalgia, but as a living design language. From boutique hotels to modern apartments, from gallery walls to collector editions, the vintage travel poster has become one of the most loved forms of decorative art print. This revival is shaped by three forces: a renewed passion for mid century aesthetics, the rise of fine art printing, and a new generation of contemporary poster artists who reinterpret the codes of classic travel advertising. Why travel posters came back in the 2000s The... … Read more
Travel posters have long served a clear purpose: to capture the essence of a place, enhance its atmosphere, and bring its beauty to life in a unique, artistic way. However, since 2023, a new trend has taken over the market—the mass production of AI-generated travel posters. While often visually appealing, these posters frequently misrepresent the locations they claim to depict. Posters That Don’t Tell the Truth A quick search for travel posters on major marketplaces like Etsy, Amazon, or Redbubble reveals a striking reality: 90 to 95% of the posters available are entirely fabricated. They showcase landscapes that either do... … Read more

Travel Posters at Home – Keep Your Travel Memories Alive
When we travel, we rarely bring back what matters most. We bring objects, souvenirs, photos. But what we truly want to keep are moments: the light at the end of the day, the feeling of a place, the atmosphere of a street, a conversation, a memory. And yet, most souvenirs are not made to last. They are often bought quickly, produced in large quantities, and slowly disappear into drawers or shelves. Keeping a Place Alive A travel poster works differently. Once framed and placed on a wall, it becomes part of your daily life. It is no longer something you store, it is something you live with. Every time your eyes pass over it, the place comes back. Not just the location, but everything attached to it: the moments, the people, the feeling of being there. It is a quiet but constant way of extending a journey. More Than a... … Read more
Creating that elusive wow effect is a hallmark of successful interior design. It's what turns a room from merely pleasant to truly memorable. But what happens when your client’s budget is tight, and you need to deliver visual impact without overspending? One of the smartest and most effective solutions lies in choosing the right large-format wall art. While original paintings or canvas pieces can easily exceed a client’s budget, art posters – when well-chosen – can create just as much impact, and sometimes even more. Let’s explore how to achieve an unforgettable result without compromising on style, uniqueness, or quality.... … Read more
Where Has All the Color Gone? In a fascinating segment from ARTE’s 28 Minutes, researchers at the Science Museum in London analyzed over 7,000 photographs of everyday objects dating from the 1800s to today — and uncovered a striking trend: our world is losing its color. From household appliances to clothing and cars, bright hues are being replaced by a sea of neutrals. White, grey, and black dominate. The streets are filled with monochrome vehicles. Wardrobes lean into black and beige. And in our homes, earthy tones and raw materials have become the norm. Even the world of fashion... … Read more

VoyageATL Interviews Alecse: The Story Behind Soft Focus Art
We are delighted to share that VoyageATL has featured Alecse, founder of Myretroposter and creator of the Artful Travels series, in its Hidden Gems Series. The interview explores Alecse’s journey from growing up in an artistic family to exhibiting paintings in New York and Paris, building businesses, running a surf resort in Sri Lanka, and eventually returning to a full artistic path through Myretroposter. It also offers a closer look at his creative process, his relationship with travel, the role of luck in life and business, and the idea behind what he calls Soft Focus. MORE THAN A TRAVEL POSTER Travel posters have traditionally celebrated destinations through iconic views, landmarks, and idealised compositions. Alecse’s work is inspired by that tradition, but it also tries to take it somewhere more personal. At the heart of his approach is a simple question: how do we actually remember a place? Most of us do... … Read more
In Barcelona, postcards are everywhere. Walk a few streets around the Gothic Quarter and you will find them in almost every shop, often sold for €1 or sometimes even less. It’s a familiar sight, and for many visitors, it feels like the natural price of a postcard. So when someone walks into our gallery and sees postcards priced at €2.5, the reaction is sometimes surprise. This article exists to explain why. Not the Same Product Most postcards you find in tourist areas are printed in huge quantities. Hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions of copies of the same design are produced... … Read more
A journey that began far from here There was a time when these posters were a secondary activity. Almost a quiet dance on the side of another life. The very first travel posters were created for the boutique of a hotel in Sri Lanka. They were born from light, from landscapes, from a desire to capture a feeling rather than a view. At that moment, no long term plan, no gallery, no roadmap. Just the joy of creating. Then life shifted. Ten years of work and investment disappeared with the Covid crisis. What had been a dancer suddenly became the... … Read more
Beyond Monuments: when a public place can no longer be freely represented This story did not begin with a theory. It began with a request. A client who loved Palm Springs and wanted a poster of a very specific place: Downtown Park. This detail matters. Because it was not a vague or abstract vision of the city, but a precise location — a real, lived space, anchored in the everyday geography of Palm Springs. At that moment, Alecse had already created two posters of Palm Springs. But this request pointed to a different intention: not to evoke the city as... … Read more

The Little Town That Chose Freedom
Every June, rainbow flags begin to appear across Sitges. Visitors arrive from around the world. Beaches become livelier, terraces stay busy long into the evening, and the town prepares for another edition of Sitges Pride, taking place this year from June 10th to June 14th, 2026. For many people, Sitges is now synonymous with Pride, inclusivity and one of Europe’s most welcoming LGBTQ+ communities. Yet the truth is that Sitges did not become open-minded because of Pride. Pride came to Sitges because the town was already open-minded. That distinction matters. The story begins long before rainbow flags, long before social media, and even long before mass tourism transformed the Mediterranean. At the end of the nineteenth century, Sitges was still a relatively modest fishing town. What changed its destiny was not industry or commerce, but culture. Artists, writers and intellectuals began arriving, attracted by the extraordinary Mediterranean light and the... … Read more
Flowers have always occupied a special place in decorative arts. From Japanese woodblock prints to vintage textile patterns and mid-century interiors, floral compositions have long been used not simply to represent nature, but to shape atmosphere, colour and emotion within a space. With this new series created for Vintage Exotics™, Cha explores that decorative tradition through a distinctly contemporary lens, while remaining deeply rooted in the oriental and japonisante influences that define the collection. Where Vintage Exotics™ Meets Botanical Forms Although Vintage Exotics™ is often associated with Asian-inspired popular culture and graphic storytelling, its visual language has always drawn from... … Read more
The Sagrada Familia has always existed somewhere between past and future. For more than a century, it has stood in Barcelona as an unfinished masterpiece, instantly recognizable yet constantly evolving. Generations of visitors have discovered it in slightly different states, each version quietly shaping how the monument lives in memory. And then, recently, something changed. A New Silhouette for Barcelona With the installation of the cross atop the central tower, the Sagrada Familia entered a new phase of its visual identity. The change is subtle at first, yet unmistakable once seen. The skyline shifts, the balance of the structure evolves,... … Read more
Barcelona has always been a city of strong visual identities. From its Gothic streets to its modernist architecture, every corner seems to tell a story through shapes, colours and light. This spring, as MyRetroPoster opens its second gallery in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, artist Cha introduces a new series within the Spanish Capsule collection — a set of posters dedicated to some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Barcelona Through Lines and Colour For this new series, Cha focused on places that many visitors encounter while exploring the historic centre of the city. Instead of reproducing them in... … Read more
